Day 1: Embracing God's Fullness

Reading: Colossians 1:15-23

Devotional: Today, we reflect on the fullness of God in Christ. Paul reminds us that in Jesus, "all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell" (v.19). This fullness isn't just for Christ alone, but through Him, we too can experience the completeness God offers. Consider how you might be living with a partial understanding of God's presence in your life. Are there areas where you're holding back, not fully embracing His fullness? Take time to invite God's complete presence into every aspect of your life, trusting that in His fullness, you will find your own.

Day 2: Overcoming Fear with Faith

Reading: Mark 5:35-43

Devotional: In today's passage, we see Jesus encouraging Jairus to believe in the face of devastating news. "Don't be afraid; just believe," He says (v.36). Fear and faith often compete for our attention, especially in times of crisis. Reflect on a situation in your life where fear is threatening to overshadow your faith. How might Jesus be calling you to push past that fear and trust Him completely? Remember, faith doesn't deny reality, but it chooses to focus on God's power over our circumstances.

Day 3: The Power of Our Words

Reading: Proverbs 18:21; James 3:1-12

Devotional:
Our sermon emphasized how "how you talk will direct how you walk." Today's readings reinforce the power of our words. Proverbs tells us that "death and life are in the power of the tongue" (18:21). Consider the words you speak over your life, your situations, and others. Are they words of faith and life, or do they reflect doubt and negativity? Challenge yourself to align your speech with God's promises, speaking life even when circumstances seem dire.

Day 4: Surrounding Yourself with Faith

Reading: Hebrews 10:19-25

Devotional: Jesus carefully chose who could accompany Him to Jairus's house, highlighting the importance of our spiritual environment. Today's passage encourages us to "consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds" (v.24). Reflect on your circle of influence. Who encourages your faith? Who challenges you to grow spiritually? Conversely, are there relationships that consistently pull you away from your faith journey? Pray for discernment in cultivating relationships that strengthen your walk with God.

Day 5: Resting in God's Control

Reading: Psalm 46

Devotional: Our sermon reminded us that with God, "all things are possible." Psalm 46 beautifully illustrates God's sovereignty and power, even amidst chaos. The psalmist encourages us to "be still, and know that I am God" (v.10). In what areas of your life do you need to release control and rest in God's capable hands? Take time to meditate on God's power and presence in your life. Allow His peace to wash over you, trusting that He is in control, even when circumstances seem overwhelming.

Hey, chat with friends about it!

We encourage you to continue the discussion with a few friends within your HOW Church Community.  Here is a short discussion guide based on Pastor DJ's sermon "I Know You Lyin' ".

Opening Prayer: Start with a brief prayer, asking God to open hearts and minds to His message.

Ice Breaker Question: Share a time when you faced a seemingly impossible situation. How did you respond?

Key Scripture: Mark 5:35-43

Discussion Questions:
  1. The sermon talks about the "fullness of God." What does this concept mean to you personally?
  2. How does our speech (confessions) impact our faith and actions? Can you share an example from your own life?
  3. Discuss a time when you had to choose between believing God's promises and accepting a negative reality. What was that experience like?
  4. The pastor mentions "emotional Faith Roller Coasters." Have you ever experienced this? How did you maintain your faith during ups and downs?
  5. Why do you think Jesus asked Jairus to "just believe"? How challenging is this simple instruction in real-life situations?
  6. The sermon suggests "dismissing all doubters" when facing adversity. How can we balance this with maintaining healthy relationships and receiving constructive feedback?
  7. Reflect on the phrase "I KNOW YOU LYIN'" as used in the sermon. How can we apply this attitude to challenges in our lives?

Key Takeaways:
  1. Experiencing the fullness of God requires faith and trust in Him.
  2. Our confessions (what we say) direct our actions and faith.
  3. God's conclusions trump our current realities.
  4. Surrounding ourselves with faith-filled people is crucial during challenging times.
  5. Remembering that God is in control can help us maintain our faith.

Practical Applications:
  1. This week, practice positive confessions aligned with God's promises, especially when facing difficulties.
  2. Identify any "critics" in your life that may be hindering your faith. Pray about how to address these relationships.
  3. Create a list of God's promises that relate to your current challenges. Meditate on these daily.
  4. Share your faith journey with a trusted friend or group member, focusing on how you're choosing to believe despite circumstances.

Closing Prayer: Thank God for His faithfulness and ask for strength to keep believing, even in the face of seemingly impossible situations.
