YOUR WEEKLY DEVO:

Day 1: The Word Before the Wind
Reading: Mark 4:35-40

Devotional: Before the disciples faced their storm, Jesus had already declared their destination: "Let us cross over to the other side." His word preceded their crisis. What storms are you facing today? Remember, God's promises over your life were spoken before your current circumstances arose. Your storm is happening in the middle of a statement Jesus has already finished. His declarations are not cancelled by your difficulties. Today, anchor yourself not in what you see, but in what He has already spoken. Write down one promise from Scripture that applies to your situation and declare it over your storm. God's word is more powerful than any wind that blows against you.
Day 2: Both Human and Divine
Reading: John 1:1-14; Hebrews 4:14-16

Devotional: Jesus never used His divinity to escape His humanity; instead, He brought His divinity into every human encounter. He experienced hunger, thirst, grief, and exhaustion—yet remained fully God. This means Jesus understands your weaknesses, your weariness, and your fears. You serve a Savior who has walked through human limitation while carrying divine authority. When you feel overwhelmed, remember that Jesus doesn't minimize your struggle or demand you overcome it in your own strength. He enters your boat, your storm, your chaos with both compassion and power. Today, bring your most human struggle to His divine presence. He cares, and He has authority over what concerns you.
Day 3: Choosing Rest in Chaos
Reading: Psalm 23; Philippians 4:6-7

Devotional: Jesus chose to sleep during the storm. This wasn't indifference—it was intentional rest. Rest is not a feeling you wait for; it's a posture you take. The disciples waited for calm conditions to feel peace, but Jesus modeled resting in the midst of chaos. True rest comes from trust, not tranquility. Where are you waiting for circumstances to change before you allow yourself peace? God invites you to rest now—not because everything is resolved, but because He is present. Rest is an act of faith that declares, "My God is bigger than my storm." Today, practice intentional rest: turn off notifications, sit in silence, and breathe deeply while declaring His faithfulness over your situation.
Day 4: The Authority of Inner Peace
Reading: Isaiah 26:3-4; Colossians 3:15

Devotional: When Jesus spoke "Peace, be still," He wasn't requesting a temporary timeout—He commanded permanent silence. The Greek phrase means "to muzzle and stay muzzled." Your inner rest gives you authority over outer chaos. The disciples panicked because their internal state matched their external circumstances. Jesus remained at rest internally, which gave Him authority to change what was happening externally. What would change if you cultivated such deep inner peace that storms couldn't shake you? God keeps in perfect peace those whose minds are fixed on Him. Today, practice fixing your mind on God's character rather than your circumstances. Let peace rule in your heart as the umpire of your decisions.
Day 5: Steering from the Place of Rest
Reading: Jeremiah 1:11-12; Psalm 46

Devotional: Jesus slept in the stern—where the rudder controlled the boat's direction. Even in rest, He was positioned to steer. This reveals a profound truth: rest doesn't mean abandoning responsibility; it means trusting God's faithfulness while you steward what He's given you. God told Jeremiah, "I watch over My word to perform it." He never fails to do what He promised. Your job isn't to manufacture outcomes through anxiety—it's to rest in His promises while remaining positioned for His direction. Where has worry replaced trust in your life? Today, identify one area where you've been striving instead of resting. Release control to God, knowing He watches over His word to perform it. Your conditions never get the final say—the Savior does.
Key Takeaways:

✓ Jesus demonstrates both His humanity and divinity, bringing divine power into every human experience.
✓ Our conditions never get the final say—the Savior does.
✓ Rest is anchored in the word God has already spoken, not in current circumstances.
✓ Rest is a deliberate choice and posture, not a feeling we wait to experience.
✓ Internal rest in God's promises gives us authority over external chaos.

Lets Talk About It:

1.  Jesus said "Let us cross over to the other side" BEFORE the storm began. What "word" has God already spoken over your life that you need to remember during your current storm?

2.  PDJ taught us : "Jesus never used His divinity to escape the experiences of His humanity." How does this truth comfort you in your own struggles?

3.  "Rest is not the absence of a storm, but the presence of trust." How does this definition change your understanding of biblical rest?

4.  Jeremiah 1 tells us God watches over His word to perform it. How can remembering God's faithfulness in the past help you rest in present storms?
This Week's Challenge:

Identify Your Storm & God's Word

  • Write down one current "storm" you're facing
  • Find or remember one promise from God's Word that speaks to that situation
  • Each day this week, before reacting to the storm, pause and declare God's word over it
  • Practice choosing rest by taking 5 minutes of silent prayer/meditation daily

Personal Reflection Exercise:

Complete this sentence and share with the group:
"The area where I most struggle to rest is _____________, but God's word over that situation says _____________."

Group Action:

Pair up with an accountability partner from the group. Exchange contact information and commit to:
  • Checking in mid-week about how you're practicing rest
  • Reminding each other of God's promises when storms arise
  • Praying specifically for each other's "storms"

MEMORY VERSE:
"Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, 'Peace, be still!' And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, 'Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?'"
- Mark 4:39-40 (NKJV)

PRAYER FOCUS:
  • Thank God for His faithfulness to His word
  • Ask for grace to choose rest over anxiety this week
  • Pray for specific storms group members are facing
  • Declare that God's promises are stronger than present circumstances
